An Invitation to Change a Life Forever

Paula LeDuc

The Paula LeDuc Leadership Society

“In 1972, I had the opportunity to help found an innovative and exciting new program for young blind people. Through my quest to bring the best culinary talent to the cooking skills program for the visually impaired, I discovered my own passion and vision for culinary artistry and left The Hatlen Center to start my own company, Paula LeDuc Fine Catering. However, I have never forgotten the amazing effectiveness of The Hatlen Center and how it changes so many lives for the better. I am deeply committed to ensuring the continuation and financial safety of The Hatlen Center for future generations.

“I would like to invite you to join the Paula LeDuc Leadership Society, an annual giving club that recognizes anyone who gives $1,000 or more unrestricted funds in a given year.

"Why $1,000? Operating expenses and salaries for staff at The Hatlen Center are covered by tuition from the State Departments of Rehabilitation. Students pay all of their own expenses out of their SSI income, including: rent, gas and electric, telephone, laundry, food, public transportation, clothing, and incidentals. One of the most empowering experiences students have while at The Hatlen Center is learning how to manage their own money. However, expenses have risen at the same time that SSI income has been cut twice. The resulting gap in income versus expenses amounts to $1,000 for the year that a student attends the program. Until students learn the skills of independent living and are trained for the work force, we must fill this gap.

“This gap has become a major hindrance for many of our students as they struggle for independence. That is why I am asking you to invest in this opportunity to have an immediate impact in helping to change one person’s life forever.

Please join our family of donors. Thank you!”
