Board of Directors

Mike Cole is a graduate of San Francisco State University where he studied psychology and special education. Mike was one of the founding teachers of The Hatlen Center and worked here as a teacher and then Executive Director for a total of 26 years. He has been a Board member since 1979. Mike has long been active in special education and rehabilitation, serving on many committees as an advocate for greater access for people with disabilities. Mike has served on several Boards of Directors, including the San Francisco Lighthouse and California Transcribers and Educators of the Blind and Visually Impaired (CTEBVI). He has also served as an Ex Officio Trustee of the American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville, Kentucky. Mike recently retired as the Administrator for the California Orientation Center for the Blind. He is married and has two grown children. He lives in Berkeley.
