Executive Director
Patty Williams has been with The Hatlen Center since the program was launched in 1972 and has been instrumental in its evolution from an experimental concept to a nationally-recognized program. Patty taught Living Skills for 24 years, first as a teacher’s aid then as an instructor, after earning her M.A. in Special Education at San Francisco State University. In 1995 she took over as the program’s Executive Director and has been a guiding force for the Center as it has continued to grow and develop. In addition to her work at The Hatlen Center, Patty taught in the Special Education graduate program at SFSU for 15 years, published widely, presented workshops at professional conferences, is on Advisory Boards for the Special Education graduate program at SFSU and the California School for the Blind, and is chair of the website committee for the Northern California Transition Council. In addition, Patty was recently named a member of the Board of Directors of the California Transcribers and Educators of the Blind and Visually Impaired (CTEBVI).
