Visitors from China!

November 7th, 2011 by admin. File under: Hatlen News

On Thursday, November 3, we were so very honored to receive visitors from Shenzhen, China. Dr. Ping Liang, an ophthalmologist and optometrist, and Ms. Xia, an optometrist and social worker, together manage the Visual Rehabilitation Division of a large disabled persons resource center in Shenzhen, near Hong Kong. These two women were accompanied by Dr. Lin Wang, a research associate at Johns Hopkins University, and Ms. Ting Siu, who studies visual impairment through the joint doctoral program at UC Berkeley/SFSU. Using a grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation, the group will develop comprehensive low vision rehabilitation services in Shenzhen. They were interested in everything about our center; including our education model, teaching curriculum and techniques, and all the equipment in our adaptive technology lab. Students Andy Chham and Drew Withoft hosted the visitors and answered many questions. They told us there are over 8 million blind and low vision people in China. We hope their visit was fruitful, and we wish them the best of luck with their new program!
